Artemis

While traveling in France, Rhonda was inspired by the images of Diana the Huntress found in art, including several statues depicting ARTEMIS with her devoted hound. The statue located in the Tuilerie Gardens, across from the Musee' du Louvre in Paris provided the inspiration for the ARTEMIS Whippets logo. This incredibly elegant marble statue standing tall against the blue Parisian sky epitomizes the beauty and loyalty of the hound as well as the hunting instincts it possesses.

Artemis is known as the goddess of the wilderness, the hunt, and fertility. She was a Greek goddess, an Olympian and a virgin who rode her silver chariot across the sky, shooting arrows of silver Moonlight. Artemis was known for roaming freely across mountainous forests and uncultivated land hunting lions, panthers, and stags. She was also known for her divine protection of wild beasts, particularly assisting in raising the young. Diana is most often depicted with bow and arrows and often accompanied by her sighthound.
